The interior of this Muskoka cabin features soft warm lighting, wood textures and clean lines, paying homage to the sites historical past as a logging mill.
The heavy timbers are Canadian douglas fir, locally sourced from the region. The strong visual qualities of douglas fir contrast against the clean lines of the timbers and subtle cracking that occurs within them.
Wood ceilings, flooring, door frames, baseboards and built in seating were integrated to compliment the main character of the timbers. When the light streams in, these wood tones and textures are highlighted with various hues from warm whites to deep browns. A custom dropped ceiling with halo lighting highlights the structure during the evening. When the light reflects off the adjacent lake at the right time, it dances on the ceiling.
Due to the limited square footage of the build, specific furnishings were chosen for aesthetic focal points as well as functional use. Built in storage allows for clutter to be stored away, while leather arm chairs and thick rugs create a comforting environment for enjoying the views of the natural surroundings.
